Samuel Gerard Waterfield

Born In: Glace Bay

Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: November 12th, 2014

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a wonderful and sincere man; a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Sam passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, in the An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late William and Christina (Nolan) Waterfield, both of Glace Bay.
Sam was a longtime employee with Public Works Government Services Canada, working in Ottawa and Halifax. His heart always longed for Cape Breton, so after his retirement, he and his wife Karen moved home. Sam enjoyed time spent fishing, playing crib and being surrounded by family and friends. He will mainly be remembered for his times spent with his loving family and friends, he was a true family man who would grasp every opportunity life offered him to have fun and enjoyment. He was a very sensitive man with a great sense of humor and people in general always liked Sam.
Sam is survived by his loving wife Karen 'Babe' (nee Scott); son John (Zoyia), B.C..; brother Ronnie (Ann), Glace Bay; grandchildren, Stewart, Gerri-Ann, Keith, Travis, Dakota, Mirraka. He will also be sincerely missed by his faithful and constant canine companions Sasa and Clovis.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by daughter Colleen; son Kevin; sister Brenda; brothers William 'Jr.' and Clifford.
Honouring Sam’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Donald MacDonald will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in Newsom United Church. Dominion St., Glace Bay.
Memorial donations in Sam’s memory may be made to Palliative Care, An Cala or the Cape Breton Cancer Center.
At this time, I wish to give very special thanks to close friends, Marion Burke, Clarence Sampson and Sam's crib team at Branch #3 Legion who constantly supported both Sam and I during his illness; to Dr. Spencer and the doctors, nurses and all other caregivers at the Cancer Center and An Cala, for their compassionate care shown to Sam.
