Norma (Rogers) Farrell, 62, of Glace Bay passed away on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Halifax.
Born in Antigonish, Norma was the daughter of Alfred Rogers and the late Helen (MacGillivary) Rogers.
Norma graduated from Teachers College, Truro and taught for 32 years; the majority of those years at Holy Cross and John Bernard Croak School, Glace Bay. She enjoyed reading, bingo, baking and travelling down south; especially to Cuba. She also had a great love for her three cats. Norma was a strong willed lady who loved and lived life to the fullest.
Besides her father, she is survived by two sons, Craig Farrell (Nicole), Glace Bay, Jason Farrell (Janet), Kentucky, USA; one brother, Gerald ‘Gerry’ Rogers (Gail), Port Hood; her pride and joy, granddaughter, Jenna Farrell as well as nieces, Kim LeBlanc (Chris), Ashli Rogers and nephews, Brad LeBlanc (Rebecca) and Justin Rogers.
Norma was predeceased by her mother, Helen Rogers in September of 2014, one son, Matthew George Farrell in infancy, her sister, Marie LeBlanc and her brother, George Rogers.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Leo Boone is Wednesday 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the foyer. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Norma, donations in her memory may be made to the SPCA, Alzheimer’s Association or the Cancer Society.
