Passed peacefully away in the presence of her family at The St. John's Long Term Care Facility on Saturday, November 15, 2014, Emma Shirley Barnes (nee Roberts) at the age of 96 years. Predeceased by her husband, Maxwell Taylor Barnes, 1993. Leaving to mourn her children who will miss her dearly: Shirley (Woodrow) French, Kelligrews; Bill (Lynn) Barnes, Calgary, AB; Stuart (Claudia) Barnes, Topsail; Carol Barnes (Reg), Nova Scotia; 10 devoted grandchildren who were the light of her life: Suzette (Steve) & Greg French, Susan (Cameron) Farn, Cathy (Kiley) Simpson, Claudette (Bern) Tobin, Ginger (Gary) Haines, Kimberly (Cole) Porter, Lindsay, Natalie and Megan Barnes, her 10 beautiful great-grandchildren whom she adored: Noah & Emma French, Aiden & Sydney Simpson, Ashley & Alyssa Tobin, Gavin Haines, Caiden & Casey Porter, Paige Haines, her sister, Jean Adams, brother-in-law, Charles (Agnes) Barnes and sisters-in-law, Elsie Barnes and Madge Barnes, nieces and nephews and her many friends. Special thanks to the staff of 3 South West, St. John's Long Term Care Facility for their wonderful care and genuine compassion. Even in difficult days they could always make her smile. Her friend at the Facility Florentine Walsh, who always made sure her every need was looked after. We will be forever grateful. Visitation in the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews on Tuesday from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm, Wednesday from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon, 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at 10:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, Topsail. Internment in the Anglican Cemetery, Topsail. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to St. John the Evangelist Cemetery Fund, Topsail.
