It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the passing of Pauline McDonald on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, in the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by family.
Born in New Victoria, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Hilda (Brown) McDonald.
She greatly enjoyed working in her gardens, baking for her nephews and nieces, knitting, crocheting, picking berries and made the best fudge. Pauline was a woman of great faith and was a member of the former Parish of St Joseph, now the Parish of St Leonard. She served with the RCAF as a supply tech and following her return home, she was employed with the County of Cape Breton and retired from the Department of Social Services in 1995 after a 33 year career.
Pauline is survived by her sister, Irene MacKay, Fall River and also several nephews and nieces, including Paul (Annette), John and Sheldon Lamey, Richard (Carol) and Leaman (Lorraine) MacKay, Sonia (Bill) Lauzon, Charlene (Dave) Pauwlski, Muriel (Erin) MacKay, Eileen MacEachern, Rose Marie and Leanne McDonald, and several grandnephews and grandnieces who all affectionately called her Aunt Pody, and her furry companion Max.
She was predeceased by her brother, Leaman McDonald, sister Madeline Lamey, nephew Joseph (Joe) Lamey, foster sister Amelia Connell and foster brother John Ryan.
As per Pauline's request, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mt. Carmel Avenue, New Waterford with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St Joseph's Cemetery, New Victoria followed by a reception at KOC, Plummer Avenue. All are welcome.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500.

Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear. The memory of a good person is a blessing.
