Val passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2015 at the Good Shepherd Villas in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 94. She was born in Dinsmore, SK on February 2, 1920, the daughter of Thomas and Martha (McClure) Power. She was raised and educated in the Steep Creek area where her father operated the Weldon Ferry for many years. Val took over a job at Burns Foods during the war and it was there that she met her husband Peter Fowlie. They were married in 1945. She was a longtime volunteer for the Red Cross and following Pete’s death in 1963 she worked at Aarons Ladies Wear, the Marlboro Hotel and as an Avon Lady; which she continued to be well past her retirement in 1985. She was known for her interest in fashion and her skill as a knitter, providing help to many who wished to master the craft. She was predeceased by her husband; her parents; her brothers James, Desmond and William Power; her sister Mae and brothers-in-law Floyd Digby, Dr. Steven Clark, Gordon Cousins and Art Simpson. She is survived by her son Gary (Karen) of New York; grandsons Liam, Luke and Spencer; sisters June Clark of Saint John, New Brunswick , Faye Cousins of Surrey, BC and Helen Simpson of Prince Albert, SK; her sisters-in-law Marg, Kate and Marion Power of Prince Albert and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Good Shepherd Villas, her sister-in-law Marg Power and her nieces Janice (Louis) Poulin and Fern (Jack) Lloyd for their special care and attention. Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Father Travis Myrheim officiating. Private Family Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Red Cross, 54 - 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
