Margaret Rose Davidson, 83, of North Sydney, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital.
Margaret was born in Saint John, N.B. on Dec. 28, 1930, the daughter of the late James and Gladys (Parks) Mills.
She and dad moved to North Sydney in the early 1950s. Mom had a strong work ethic, and she excelled in anything she turned her hand to. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. Mom was an avid reader and would visit the library weekly. She applied her talents at home as a wonderful baker and cook. We all benefited from the many delicious meals she served to our families. Mom enjoyed lots of good times on Moulton Avenue with her close friends Wanda, Sis, and Edie.
Mom was employed for many years at the Owl Drug Store in North Sydney. She was a dedicated volunteer at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital travelling every Monday in order to work on the desk at day surgery. Mom’s faith was very strong. She was an active member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mom was an independent, feisty lady with a special kindness for children. She was affectionately known as Ma. For many years she was a caregiver for our father, and she travelled often to Saint John to help care for her mother.
Mom is survived by her sons, Jim (Wanda) and Randy (Ava), both of North Sydney; her grandchildren, Amy (Steve) Houle, Brian (Karri) Davidson, Alicia Davidson (Chris Huestis) and Wayne Davidson (Courtney Brown); her great-grandchildren, Baillie, Evan, Sarah Rose, Max and Sabrina. Also surviving are her sisters, Sandra (Doug) Rowbottom, Betty (Gerry) Mennie and Deborah (Jack) O’Bryant, her nieces Wendy, Rhonda, Kelly, Amy and Kim and nephew Sean.
Besides her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband Ernie, her brothers, James and John.
There will be no visitation. A celebration of Mom’s life will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 49 Campbell St., North Sydney with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations in memory of Margaret may be made to St. Giles Presbyterian Church or a charity of choice.
