Pierre Cormier

CORMIER, PIERRE RENE - 1949 - 2014 - Pierre René Cormier, 65, of Dieppe, NB, passed away on Sunday, November 16th, 2014, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Center, Moncton, NB. Born in Moncton, NB, he was the son of the late J Rodolphe “René” and the late Blanche (née: Arsenault) Cormier. Mr. Cormier grew up in the parish of Saint-Anselme. During his early years, Pierre played for the Acadian League as a goalkeeper; he was also involved in minor baseball for over 13 years and even acted as umpire. He graduated from Vanier High School in 1967 and from Teacher’s College at U de M in 1970. He began teaching; continued his education and received his Bachelor of Elementary Teaching in 1974, followed by his Bachelor of Education in 1977. He taught in Chatham 1970 to 1971; Mathieu-Martin High School in Dieppe from 1972 through 1978, he worked for the Évangeline newspaper from 1978 to 1982 in Circulation and as Sales Manager. He taught at the community college from 1982 to 1989. During the latter years he also worked for the Canadian Red Cross, Le Matin newspaper and was the owner/operator of Saint-Anselme Variety. For the last few years, he was a resident of Auberge du Soleil. He is survived by two sons: Jean-Marc of Memramcook East and Daniel (Jill) of NE Lincolnshire, England; one brother, John (Pauline) of Trois-Ruisseaux; his children’s mother, Charlotte LeBlanc; his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Gilroy; one granddaughter, Diana; one step-granddaughter, Kristyn, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB (857-1901) on Tuesday, November 25th, 2014 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Saint-Anselme Roman Catholic Church, Dieppe, NB (857-1901), on Wednesday, November 26th, 2014 at 11 am.
Interment in Saint-Anselme parish cemetery, Dieppe, NB. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. www.chartersville.com
