Malcom "Mac" Dodge

DODGE, Malcolm “Mac” L. - age 91, of Wolfville, formerly of Middleton, died November 14, 2014 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton on August 10, 1923, a son of the late Angus and Betty (Palmer) Dodge. Malcolm worked for Maritime Telegraph and Telephone Company, starting in 1941 as a lineman, later transferring to various Central Offices throughout western Nova Scotia. He retired in 1988 after 47 years of service. Music was a focal point in Malcolm’s life. He was an accomplished musician, playing the saxophone in various bands in the Valley for 25 years. He also played 12 years in a reserve military band, The West Nova Scotia Regiment. Malcolm’s musical abilities transferred to the keyboard after retirement, where he would put his own “spin” on every piece he played. Malcolm was a great friend – remembering everyone he knew on their birthdays either with a card or a phone call with a happy birthday tune. In addition to his wife, the former Joan Webber, Malcolm is survived by his daughters, Ann (Bill) Witcomb, Wolfville; Shealagh (Paul) McGrath, Halifax; Charlene (Jerry) Lewis, Albuquerque, New Mexico; stepdaughter, Natalie (Dr. Michael) Geoghegan, Calgary, stepdaughter -in-law, Nancy Hewitt and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by son, Charles, stepdaughter, Kimberley, stepson Derek, brothers, Eric and Courtney. Thank you to Dr. Mossman and Dr. Merriweather. In keeping with Malcolm’s wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held Thursday, November 20, 2014 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street (902) 825-3448 with Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Donations in memory may be made to the Charity of Choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home.
