CUMMINGS, Joyce Marie -77, passed away Friday evening, November 21, 2014 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born April 21, 1937 in Nictaux, NS, she is predeceased by her late husband, Paul Cummings Sr., parents, Wardlow Hiltz and Jennie (Taylor) Hiltz, sister Gladys and brothers Lester and Wilfred. She is survived by her five children - Paul Jr., Middleton, NS, Patricia (Russell) Freeman, Forest Glade, NS, Jacqueline (Dale Hamilton), Mississauga, ON, Lynn (Troy Atkinson), Hammonds Plains, NS, Melissa (Wesley Henneberry), Sambro, NS; six grandchildren - Blaine Weaver, Mitchell and Jennifer Atkinson, Morgan, Riley, and soon to be born baby Henneberry, her sister Lexie Slauenwhite, Red Deer, AB and her half-sister Marilyn Hassan, Saint John NB. Of all of her accomplishments, Joyce's greatest achievements have been in the lives of her family and friends. She was a great listener, had a unique talent for making people feel welcomed and comfortable in her presence, and when asked, she would offer her wise counsel. Joyce had the ability to recognize and encourage talents and abilities in others and to make them feel loved and uplifted. Her warm smile, sparkling eyes and compassionate, generous heart were well known by all those who knew her, as was her strength of character and legendary sense of humour. A nurturer and cultivator at heart, her passions lie with family, love for animals, reading and gardening. By request, there was no visitation. Funeral service was held Thursday, November 27, 2014 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902)825-3448 with Rev. Deacon Don Boudreau officiating. A reception for family and friends followed the service. Private family interment will be in St. Monica’s Cemetery, Middleton. By request, family flowers only.
