Edmund 'Eddy' O'Connor, 85 passed away peacefully at the Melville Lodge Care Centre on Nov. 24, 2014. A dedicated and beloved son of the late Daniel and Sarah O'Connor, a brother, a father, a grandfather and uncle, and a friend to many. He was surrounded by loved ones in his last days, including his wife, Elaine (LeBlanc) of 58 years.
He is survived by his children, Jim, Ellen (Mike) Sims; Paul (Jennifer) and Dave (Stephanie) in Halifax, N.S.; grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, Laurenn, Selena, Janel, Liam, Jillian, Catherine, Ryan, Josh, and Jake; siblings, Mona, Marie, Don, Inez, Emmett, Dan, and John and many other family members.

Born in Belledune, N.B., he was raised in Sydney Mines, N.S. Leaving school early he worked for CNR which brought him to Halifax where he raised his family. With still young children, risk taking and hard work, he began his successful career as an entrepreneur. He first applied his vision to O'Connor's Cleaning and then onto subdivision developments, Spryfield Mall and retail stores. A notable community event he originated was the first annual Spryfield Santa Claus Parade now in its 45th year and reported as the largest east of Montreal.
He was a member of St. Michael's parish, where he volunteered often for the church and local clubs. He later became an active member of Saint Benedict parish and enjoyed the Knights of Columbus.
Eddy was a devoted father and always supported and attended his children's activities, especially in ball, hockey and soccer. He made many trips around Atlantic Canada and beyond to watch and cheer for his kids and their teams. He enjoyed many years of yachting and always welcomed many to his cottage in Ben Eoin, Cape Breton. A lover of family gatherings, he regularly entertained through the year, and would never turn down a number of family reunions with his own siblings. Eddy was very proud of each of his children as they too carried on with devotion to their lovely families and successful careers.
Visitation will take place Thursday, Nov. 27 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, (902-455-0531) and funeral in Saint Benedict parish on Friday, Nov. 28 at 10:30 a.m. Special thanks to the staff at Melville Lodge for the care and comfort Eddy received.
