HESSLER: Walter August passed away on November 17, 2014 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. Walter was born in Buffalo, New York on December 12, 1916. Walter came to Canada with his parents as a baby. They settled on a farm south of Ernfold, SK. He went to Charlotte school and helped his dad with the farm work. Later Walter had the urge to travel, ending up on Ontario, working in the logging industry. His form of transportation was riding the rails. He often said he felt like a hobo. When he returned to Saskatchewan, he worked for his uncle Bob Conneley in Shaunavon, SK. Walter met the love of his life, Sophie Deobald in 1940. They were married on May 11, 1941. The crops were not very good in those days, so they found work in Lang, SK where they helped a farmer there. Later they moved to the Thompson farm north of Kelstern, SK in 1946. They had two daughters, Shirley June Hessler born on September 1, 1942 and Sharon Hessler: Catherine Hessler born on February 17, 1946. Walter and Sophie worked hard keeping the farm going. Walter was a jack of all trades and always kept things running. In October of 1967, Walter and Sophie bought their home in Morse, SK. They still farmed until April 1993, then they sold the farm and retired.
