GETTY, NORVILLE THORNTON - Norville Thornton Getty, beloved husband of Grace (48 years) passed into the spirit world on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the DECH in Fredericton, NB. Born in Bimlipatam, India, he was the son of the late Orville and Bertha Getty. He is survived by his sons Norville and Paul Getty, of Fredericton, NB; his daughter Laura Getty (Nik) of Minto, NB; siblings Wayne Getty of Thailand, Ronald (Tannis) and Ian Getty and Margaret McCullough of Calgary, AB; grandchildren Owen, Avery and Samantha, and many nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, Norville was predeceased by a grandson, Jake, and nephew TJ. He was a loving and involved family man. Norville earned a BA from the University of Alberta in Calgary, an LLB from UNB, and a LLM from the London School of Economics. Throughout his career, which moved from the civil service to business, law, and consulting, he recognized and addressed social injustices. He focused on supporting the efforts of Aboriginal people to achieve social justice and self-determination.
Visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014 from 1 to 3 PM. A service of remembrance will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM in the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel with The Rev. Alan Getty officiating.
