Dorlas J. Running, second youngest daughter of Stanley and Violet Stephenson, was born on March 16, 1924, on the family farm near Clair Bank, SK; she passed away on November 23, 2014, in Swift Current, SK. Dorlas attended school at St. Clair District School from grades 1 to 10, finishing grades 11 and 12 in the city at Swift Current Collegiate. She graduated in May of 1943 and in that same month joined the Air Force, leaving for Toronto to complete basic training. She served in Yorkton working in administration, then to Dauphin, Manitoba, as a secretary, and finally to Winnipeg, in administration, before being discharged in 1946. She learned to cook and would later work in the restaurant in Simmie owned by her aunt, Vera, where she met her future husband, Jackson Running. They married on Aug. 2, 1949, in Admiral, SK. They lived together in Admiral first, later moving to Swift Current where they raised their three children: Carol, Albert, and Brent. Her interests were family oriented over the years enjoying any family gathering. One of her joys included creating handcrafted items such as knit afghans or needle point. These were often gifts to family and close friends. Dorlas also enjoyed cooking and baking, which she was well known for. Playing card games, doing jigsaw puzzles, and word puzzles were other hobbies she enjoyed. Dorlas was a member of the Shrine Ladies Auxilary, Eastern Star, and the Canadian Legion. She was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Violet (Simmie) Stephenson, her husband Jackson Running, daughter-in-law Susan Running, grandson Landon Running, brothers Cecil, Clifford, and Douglas Stephenson, sisters Lorna Stephenson, Vera Morrow, and Lila Michwich. Dorlas leaves to mourn her passing, her children: daughter Carol (Dale) Gross and family; Jason (Karrie) Gross and daughter, Ella; Garth (Sharie) Gross and children Hanna, Ryley, and Emily. Son Albert Running and family; daughter Amanda (George) Redmond and children, Jacob and Hope; Jackson Running (Jessica Kletke) and son, Jake; and Spencer Running. Son Brent (Kathy) Running and family; Jaclyn Running (Lyndon Zacharias); and Kelly Running; Dorlas' sister Janet Collard; her niece and special friend, Dallas Friesen; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Dorlas' ashes were interred at Mount Pleasant Burial Park with Warren's Funeral Home in care of arrangements and Rev. Annette Taylor officiating. A service was held at 11 a.m. on November 29, at the First United Church in Swift Current.
