HATCHER, NORMAN KEITH - It is with great heartache that we announce the passing of Norman K. Hatcher in Moncton, New Brunswick December 01, 2014 with his family at his side. Born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia July 3rd, 1930, Norman was employed by Marine Atlantic until his retirement in June 1987. Norman began his career with CN in North Sydney with his last posting as Employee Relations Officer with Marine Atlantic serving the territory of North Sydney, Port Aux Basque, Lewisporte, Argentia, and St. John’s Newfoundland and completing his years of service at Marine Atlantic Head Offices beginning in June 1984.
Norman was a Master Mason of the Royal Albert Lodge, North Sydney a member of the Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite and Red Croix. Norman was an ardent and competitive curler with the Cape Breton Curling Club in Sydney Mines and the Seaview Curling Club in North Sydney.
Norman is survived by his wife Shirley (Marsh) of 60 years and four children; Scott (Joan) of Sussex, New Brunswick, Trent (Pattie) of Riverview New Brunswick, Alan (Shelley) of St. John’s, Newfoundland, and Glen (Andrea) of Riverview, New Brunswick. Norman was very proud of his family and seven grandchildren; Nicholas, Stephanie, Julie, Emily, Owen, Stephen, Ben and great-grandchild Brooklynn. Norman is also survived by his brother David Hatcher of North Sydney, Nova Scotia. Norman was predeceased by his parents, the late Daniel and Mae (DeVoe) Hatcher, and a son Norman Bruce at age 5 years, a sister Helen, brothers, Sidney, Hudson and Chalmers. Norman was a member of the Steeves’ Memorial United Church and a member of the Board of Trustees.
At Norman’s request there will be no service or visitation in Moncton. Norman has requested a graveside service at the family’s lot at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney Nova Scotia at a later date. In Norman’s memory donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, (506) 852-3530.
