Passed on: December 2nd, 2014

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, Benjamin Franklin ‘Benny’ Woodill. Ben passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014.
Born in Sydney on Nov. 11, 1929, he was a son of the late Earle and Marjorie (Steele) Woodill.
He is survived by sons, Derek, Mississauga, Ont. and Daryl, Bedford, N.S.
He was predeceased by his loving wife and the mother of his children, Agnes ‘Bingie’ (Murrant) Woodill in 2011; sisters, Delores Mahoney, Shannon MacDougall and brothers, Frederick Woodill and Ronald Woodill.
Ben was proud of the fact that he was born at the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month on the 11th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
He worked for many years with Irving Oil in several areas of the Maritimes but most of them were spent as a stock controller at the Bulk Plant in Sydney River. He had many interest but his favourite hobby was fly-fishing at Trout River near the family cottage in Lake Ainslie. He and his brother, Fred were known to wake up before the crickets to drop a line in hopes of landing the first fish of the day. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and two adopted boys (who were his treasures) throughout the early years and always loved playing a rousing game of tarabish – as long as there was a fourth! After the passing of his wife, he enjoyed preparing preserves and getting out to local tarabish games – his favourite was the Saturday game with his son Daryl at Spanish River.
Both Ben and Bingie wished to donate their bodies to the Dalhousie Science Dept. However this was not possible.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to their department as well as the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Special thanks for the loving care and compassion shown by his doctors, as well as the staff of the I.C.U. at Cape Breton Regional Hospital… You all made a difference!
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 at St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney, Rev. Jim Oliver will officiate. A reception will follow the service at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
