With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Kenneth Graham Chapman on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Northport, N.S., on April 24, 1929, Ken was the son of the late Lorne and Jenny (Ackles) Chapman.
Ken was a 10 year member of the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving overseas in England, France and Germany. For 17 years, he worked in the restaurant industry in Amherst, after which, he moved to Baddeck in 1978, where he was the general manager of the Silver Dart Lodge and later moved to Sydney. For over 20 years, Ken was an active member of the Amherst Lions Club and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, Sydney. He was also a member of the United Protestant Church of Sydney River
Surviving are his brother, Melvin (Karen), Halifax; daughter, Joanne (Malcolm Campbell), Sydney; grandchildren, Lindsey Beth (Kevin Rockett), Moncton, N.B., Shelby Grace (Jesse Gray), Dartmouth, Kenneth Andrew Chapman, Jessica Campbell (Fran Doran), Calum Campbell and Patrick Campbell; and great-grandson, Ayden Gray. Ken was blessed to have a second family and is also survived by Keith and Theresa Pettipas and their three children, Stacey, Colin and Cara.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Norman, Wyman, Arnold and Harold, as well as a brother in infancy.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday 11 a.m. Interment will take place in Hillside Cemetery, Northport, N.S.
