R. Lorne MacDougall

R. Lorne MacDougall of Truro, Nova Scotia passed away December 4, 2014 at the age of 96. He was the eldest son of the late Ralph and May (Webb) MacDougall. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty); his siblings, Betty, Bob, Jean, Bill, and Lois; his sons, Ralph and Donald; and his grandson, Charlie. He is survived by his brother Ian (Joan) and sister Margaret Boudreau (Cyril); his children, Helen May Kennedy, John (Mary), Mary, Joe, Bill (Tanis), Chris (Karen), Bobb, Jamie (Tracey Earle), Greg (Jane Hazel), 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Lorne was raised in Halifax and joined Wilfred Burchell in the practice of law in Truro in 1944. He had a distinguished legal career, in particular in labour dispute resolution and as Chair of the Dairy Commissions in both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. He was a recipient of the Weldon Award for Unselfish Public Service from the Dalhousie Law School Alumni Association. He was an active member in his church and was appointed a Knight of Saint Gregory in 1958. Over the years Lorne actively assisted many organizations in his community and encouraged others to do the same. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Truro since 1946. As busy as his life was, Lorne always reserved time for his family and friends, enjoying a quiet life (as much as 11 active children would allow). The family wish to thank Linda Ross and Margie Crossman for their dedication to Lorne and family for the last 10 years, the Palliative Care team, the VON Community Care workers and nurses. In particular, the family wishes to acknowledge the staff and lawyers of Burchell MacDougall, who enabled Lorne to attend his office until two weeks before his death. Respects may be paid at Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro on Monday, December 8, 2014 between 11:00 and 2:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 11:00 am. For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Lorne, please consider a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro.
