WILCOX, MARY - Mary (Arbuckle) Wilcox, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, December 8, 2014 at her home. Born September 10, 1922 in Glasgow, Scotland. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Jane (O’Kane) Arbuckle. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Walter B. Wilcox in March of 2002; sisters Rose, Jean, Sheila; brother William Arbuckle and great-grandson Jason. Mary moved to Canada with her husband Walter in 1957 and raised their family in West Saint John. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 30 Up Club, Beaconsfield Rubies Seniors Club, and Ladies Routine Card Party. She enjoyed Tai Chi and became an instructor teaching her senior group when she was eighty four. At the age of 89, she received a present from her family, her first laptop. It wasn’t long before Facebook, Skype, and Google Earth were mastered. Mary had great pride and love for her family. She was a devoted mother to two sons Robert Wilcox (Joanne), Walter Wilcox (Elaine); five daughters Jean Vautour (Roger), Ann James (Wayne), Kathleen Evans (Lorne), Mary Murray (Sherman), and Eileen McCluskey (Greg) all of Saint John; her brother Robert Arbuckle (Margaret) and sister-in-law Mary Arbuckle both of Scotland; she was the last surviving grandmother to her 15 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 13. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews in Great Britain and Newfoundland.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Row, West Saint John, on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 12 noon. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Assumption Center. Remembrances in memory of Mary may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice. www.fundyfuneralhome.com
