Arlene Crowley

Arlene Scott Crowley passed away on November 30, 2014 in Central Butte Regency Manor at the age of 98. Arlene was born in 1916 to Sydney Scott and Mabel Kerr of Lawson, Sask. It was here that she attended school and met her best friend and future husband David Crowley. After high school Arlene moved to Regina where she attended the Grey Nuns Nursing School, graduating in 1941. Following graduation, Arlene moved to Edmonton where she worked as a nurse during the war efforts. In 1942, Arlene married her childhood friend and life-long love, David Crowley - with whom she had 3 sons. Following the war, Dave and Arlene moved back to the Lawson area where they continued to farm until their retirement. Arlene was an active member of the Lawson community with membership in the U.C.W., Prosperity Rebekah Lodge #81 and the Ladies Legion Auxiliary. Throughout the years Arlene could be seen at Lawson community events -cooking, baking, serving and socializing - she loved spending time with friends and family! Arlene was active in her church, playing piano regularly at the Lawson United Church and later in Central Butte. With the farm and her community groups not keeping her "active" enough - Arlene also found time to attend ball games (often keeping stats of her own to make sure the ump was on top of things!), hockey games and curling bonspiels that her sons, and later granddaughters participated in. Arlene and Dave moved to Central Butte in the 1990's with full retirement beginning a few years later. In 2004 they moved to Moose Jaw where they lived in Mulberry Estates where Arlene could often be found enjoying time with friends, playing a friendly card game or cheering her favorite curling teams. Arlene is predeceased by her loving husband of 70 years David, her parents Sydney and Mabel Kerr, brothers-in-law Manley Birch, Ray Martin and Gordon Beggs, sisters-in-law Annis Birch (Crowley) and May Beggs (Crowley), nephew Doug Birch and niece Mavis Moore (Birch). Arlene was a formidable force - a loving mother, aunt, grandmother and friend. She will be missed dearly by all those who survive her: her sister Margery Martin (Kerr), sons John Scott, David Lee, Blair (Deana), granddaughters and husbands, grandsons, great-granddaughters and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Following a private family interment at Sunset Cemetery, a Memorial Tea took place at Jones Family Centre, 262 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Sunday, December 7, 2014 from 1:30 - 3:30 pm. Words of Reflection began at 2:00 pm. Reverend David Moore officiated. In living memory of Arlene, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
