It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Elmer Francis Long, age 80, on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at his home.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late George and Nora (Strickland) Long. Elmer was employed as a meat cutter with Lemoine Brothers Grocery for 40 years and later with Jabalee’s Quality Store until his retirement. Elmer enjoyed going for his daily walks, spending time with his family especially his two granddaughters. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Marlene (Haggett) Long; his children, Greg (Liza) Long, Moncton, Karen (Michael) Jessome, Georges River, Terry (Marcia) Long, Moncton; his two granddaughters, Rebecca and Logan Jessome; his brother, Phil (Alice) Long, North Sydney; sisters, Georgina (David) Gillis, North Sydney, Gladys (John) O’Quinn, London, Ont. and also by nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Kirkpatrick, Dr. R. Jhirad and the VON for the excellent care and dedication shown to Elmer, during the past several months.
No visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Canadian Diabetic Association.
