It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. We, the family, regret to announce the passing of Daniel 'Sonny' Treige at the age of 79 on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at home, surrounded by his family.
Born and raised in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Arthur and Annie May (Roberts) Treige.
He was a coal miner retiring in 1985. He was most happy out walking, listening to music, Saturday night dancing and his daily drives with his wife Margie.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 56 years Margie (Currie); his children, Allie (Lucille), Brian (Lois), Lennie (Nancy), Johnny (Allyson), Margaret Ann, James (Kim), David (late Martha), Jean (late Johnny Comer), Donna (Stephen), Jerry (Tracey) and sisters, Mary and Muriel; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In honouring Sonny’s wishes cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 12, 2 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home Chapel, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. The Rev. Reggie Currie will be officiating. The interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, MacLeod’s Crossing. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to Palliative Care.
At this time the family would like to express a sincere thanks to the VON, Cathie Lloyd (an angel) , the entire palliative care team, Dr. Asim, Dr. Rachel Abel, Dr. Khodadad and the Cape Breton Cancer Centre staff, Glace Bay Pharmasave staff and a special thank you to his special nurse, granddaughter Crissy Treige.
