Passed peacefully away at Health Science Complex on December 6, 2014. Joy Margaret Vardy age 89 Years. Predeceased by husband, Robert J. Vardy and grandchild Noah Vardy. Leaving to mourn Children: Norman (Pauline) Vardy, John Vardy & spouse, Lee Ducharme, Lorraine (George) Power, Jim (Claire) Vardy, Bruce (Karen) Vardy; Grandchildren: Kirk Vardy, Kristen Patten (nee Vardy), Rebecca Power, Luke Power, Robert Vardy, Sarah Vardy; Great grandchildren: Olivia Vardy, Kira Vardy, Bianca Vardy. Special thank you to the Staff at Kenny's Pond Retirement Residence and Health Science Complex. Visitation will take place at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Thursday, December 11, 2014, 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Funeral service will take place at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John's NL on Friday, December 12, 2014, 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, St. John's NL. Donations to the Newfoundland Mental Health Association or Boy Scouts of Canada, St. John's, NL, in memory of Joy Vardy. Joy Fillmore was born on October 3, 1925 in Baie Verte, New Brunswick. She trained as a nurse and worked at the Sackville NB General Hospital. There, she met Robert J. Vardy, a young university student at Mount Allison and they were married in 1949. Joy was a dedicated wife and mother raising five children often alone during Robert's deployments with the Canadian Armed Forces. They finally settled in St. John's after Robert's retirement. Joy continued to practice as a nurse at the Janeway Children's Hospital until her retirement. Joy loved to travel and visit her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to work in her garden, bird watch, fish at the shack and do crafts. She loved poetry particularly Robert Service. She was a leader with the Boy Scouts of Canada and also volunteered with the Newfoundland Mental Health Association. Joy will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
