Dr. Donald Boudreau

BOUDREAU, DR. DONALD J. - Dr. Donald J.Boudreau, formerly of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, passed away on September 28, 2014 in Dallas, Texas, USA. He was born February 16, 1920 in Saint John, New Brunswick. His studies began at St. Vincent’s Catholic High School and extended to St. Joseph’s University where he received a BA in Philosophy and Theology in Latin. After attending the Seminary in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and the Holy Cross for two months in Massachusetts, he attended St. Francis Xavier where he received a BSC in pre-med studies. He went on to Ottawa U. Med School receiving his medical degree in 1953. After practicing medicine in Blackville, NB for two years he did a four year residency in surgery at Sister of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, NY, returning to Saint John to practice in the town of his birth. He was a volunteer medical officer with the Canadian Army. He accepted a position with the Canadian National Health and Welfare Services in Workman’s Compensation and eventually transferred to the foreign service branch serving in Trinidad, West Indies and in Europe, Paris and Rome. He returned to Toronto where he served in the Civil Aviation Medicine branch until retirement from government service. In 1979 he moved to Texas and continued his love of helping people through his practice of general medicine and surgery in Van Alstyne. He joined the medical staff of the Wilson N Jones Hospital in Sherman and was medical director of Hilltop Haven nursing home in Gunter and Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Van Alstyne until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Texas Medical Association, Grayson County Medical Society, Sera Club, Knights of Columbus and was a charter member of the Rotary Club at Hurricane Creek. Donald was amongst the First Families who were instrumental in building the Holy Family Catholic Church in Van Alstyne. He was an avid reader, lover of music, enjoyed working with his ham radio and also enjoyed travelling the world. He is survived by his loving wife, Valerie who he was married to for 64 years as well as his six children, Joanne, Michael, Ann-Marie, David, Kathryn and Stephen (Diane) Boudreau. He is also survived by three grandchildren, David’s daughters, Chelsea (Trent) Conner, Megan Boudreau and Cameron (Stephen and Diane’s son) as well as several nieces and nephews. Donald is predeceased by his parents, Gus and Maryanne Boudreau, his three brothers, Ceo, Arthur and Francis and one sister, Anita Reid.
The funeral mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sherman, Texas, on Thursday, October 2nd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in the name of Dr. Donald Boudreau to the Altzheimer’s Association: www.alzfdn.org.
