She was blessed with four great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Diego Acker Candela, Kate Wilton, Sebastian Acker Candela, and Baron Hammond. Also surviving Peggy are her two brothers, Jim and Jack Sczembora, and two sisters-in-law, Doris Corbin and Helen Thorson, many special nieces and nephews and two dear friends, Muriel Stevenson and Linda Altermatt. Peggy was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, William Acker in 2010, her mother Susie Sczembora, her father Vincenti Sczembora, two brothers, Leon and Fred, her sisters Victoria and Helen, brother-in-law Albert and sister-in-law Kathleen Beck. Mom was born and grew up in Bracken and from an early age loved children. She babysat to make a few coins and quit school at 16 to work as a nanny in Regina. She married Dad on May 29, 1953 at age 18. They moved to the farm near Orkney (NE 13-2-15 W3) soon after that. There they lived and worked for the next 50 years. She was a devoted mother and worked hard to make a good home for her family. She prepared lots of meals and drove them to the fields during busy times of the farm year. The coffee pot was always on in Mom's kitchen and she and Dad loved to have neighbours stop over for a cup and a visit. Sunday afternoons for many years were spent with Gordon and Steva Grant or Clark and "Grandma" Sims on the hill. In later years it was the Carletons and the Nelsons. They loved to have a few hands of whist and catch up on the news. In 1989 Mom officially became a member of the United Church and treasured the friendships and duties she held close to her heart. She really enjoyed the Orkney ladies and the community as a whole. She always remarked that the ladies could all work together so well to get something done! Mom loved music and often sang at the top of her lungs to the songs on her record player as she worked. She was happy dancing, especially round and square dancing, which she and Dad did for many years with clubs in the southwest. They made wonderful lasting friendships that way. She was athletic and played softball into her 50's. She enjoyed curling in the winter as well. Later on, she loved to watch all sports but especially Mike and Nancy's racing. She was a vocal cheerleader at grandkids' sports and an armchair Riders coach. Mom liked to take her camera with her everywhere she went ensuring she always had pictures to show her friends and family. What really made Mom happy was to laugh and hear others laugh, too. She had an infectious giggle and a sharp sense of humour. She made sure we celebrated Thanksgiving together as a family, a tradition which will go on. Donations in Mom's memory can be made to the Dr. Noble Irwin Foundation or to the Bracken United Church. We would like to thank especially Dr. DeKlerk, Dr. Serwadda, and the staff at Cypress Regional Hospital for their compassionate care during the last three months. Warren's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
