BEHM-MARKOSKY - Gloria Behm-Markosky died Dec 11, 2014 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre in Swift Current at the age of 73 after a battle with Alzheimer's. Gloria was born Oct 28th, 1941 in Yorkton to Michael and Lena (nee Matychuk) Zawada, the oldest of 3 children. Gloria finished her schooling in Yorkton where she met Gerald George Markosky whom she married in 1961. After Gerry graduated from the x-ray program in Winnipeg in 1966, they along with their children Dwayne and Raelene moved to Lloydminster until their retirement in 1996. They retired to Beaver Flat, SK hoping to spend summers at the Lake and winters in Kelowna, enjoying their grandchildren, who were everything to them. After Gerald's sudden passing in March of 1997, Gloria remained in Beaver Flat for a year before moving to Swift Current in 1998 to be closer to her daughter & family. In 2001 she married Leo Behm and the couple resided in Swift Current. As her health began to decline Gloria needed more constant care, and had spent her final days in the excellent care of the staff at the Palliser Regional Care Centre.
Gloria is survived by her children: Dwayne Markosky of Kelowna, BC; and Raelene (Allen) Stewart of Swift Current; grandchildren Lexi and Landon Markosky, and Aaron, Amanda and Lane Stewart; brothers Jim Zawada of Yorkton and Lorne (Linda) Zawada of Matlock, MB; nephews and nieces: Denise (Kevin ) Bilan and their children Caitlin and Madison; Kevin Zawada (Kristy) and his children Braden and Morgan; Karen (Trevor) Koshman and children Kennedy and Sidney; Darren (Karri) Zawada and children Mayson and Elizabeth. Gloria is also survived by her step-mother Mabel Zawada and aunt Susan Pisiak, brothers-in-law Delmar (Adeline) Markosky; Robert (Judy) Markosky, and Leo Behm. Besides her husband Gerry, she was predeceased by her parents; and her sister-in-law Betty Zawada. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Fr. Peter Pidskalny C.Ss.R. as Celebrant. Responses were sung by Ed Pindus and St. Mary's Choir members. The crossbearer was Landon Markosky, the epistle-reader was Denise Bilan. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Aaron & Lane Stewart, Kevin Bilan, Trevor Koshman, and Darren & Kevin Zawada serving as the casketbearers. Memorials were to the Alzheimer's Society or to the Dr. Noble Irwin Healthcare Foundation. The funeral care was entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home, Yorkton.
