Elva Paterson

PATERSON, ELVA S. - With much sadness we announce the death of our mother, Elva Sadie Paterson, on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at the age of 94; wife of William N(late) and daughter of the late Wylder and Emily (Wright) Cudmore. Elva graduated with the first class of 1938 from Moncton High School. After her wartime marriage in 1944, she travelled to Scotland which was Bill's home and where he was stationed. She and Bill returned to Moncton in 1948 with their “bonnie” baby in tow. They built their house and Mum raised her family before going back to work at Eaton's and then CIBC. She enjoyed her banking days as she was a whiz at math, but didn't enjoy the day in 1964 when the St. George St. Branch was robbed and she was forced at gun point to face the wall! This was to be just one of many life experiences in her long span of life. She later worked at the Moncton Hospital Out-Patient Business Office from which she retired after 20 years. She enjoyed curling, ballroom dancing, and lawn bowling over the years. She was a devoted mother to daughters Patricia (late Peter) of Gravenhurst, ON; Sandra (Gary) Nickerson of Riverview, NB; and Brian (Susan) of Halifax, NS. Loved by her grandchildren Kevin (Jenn) Nickerson, NS, and Angela (Wayd) Nickerson McNally, PEI; Robert and Rachel Paterson, NS; Mitchell and Nicolas Paterson, ON., three great-grandchildren, Lauren, Maleeya, and Kassandra. Survived by one brother, Watson (Shirley) Cudmore, Riverview. Mum was predeceased by husband Bill, in 1996, and by son James in 2010 as well as siblings Verna, Willard, and Emmerson Cudmore. Elva enjoyed an extremely healthy independent life right up to the last few months.
Resting at Fair Haven Funeral Home with visitation on Friday December 19, 2014 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm. A funeral service will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home following the visitation on Friday at 1:30 pm. Interment will take place in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations in Elva’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society (in memory of Dad) or to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, (506) 852-3530. A book of condolences may be signed at www.fairhavenmemorial.ca
