Dickey, George Scott, age 86, Middle Stewiacke
It is with great sadness the family announces our father’s passing on Dec. 18, 2014 after a long struggle with diabetes. Born in Middle Stewiacke in 1928, “Junior” was the son of the late George Sr. and Jennie (Brenton) Dickey. Dad attended Mount Alison University and N.S. Tech (civil ’51). After meeting our mother, Christine, during his first job in St. John’s, they moved to Montreal where Dad was a partner in Cadconex Enterprises, a successful general contracting firm for many years. He was a member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec. Dad eventually retired and moved back to Middle Stewiacke where he did a wonderful job restoring his childhood home. He was a member of the St. Anne’s Curling Club in Montreal and the Truro Curling Club as well as the Truro Golf Club. Dad enjoyed weekend family trailer trips to many destinations and further travel as the children moved away. He especially loved being followed around while doing chores by his grandchildren Jonathan and Jocie and well as following grandsons Scott and Brett around the country to cheer at their canoe-kayak competitions. George is survived by his sons, George (Lorrie), Waverley, N.S., David (Isabelle), Hammonds Plains, N.S.; daughter Susan (Darrell) Pyke , Fredericton, N.B. ; sisters Marnie Ross, Naples, Florida, and Jean Burwell, Mississauga, Ontario as well as special friend Barbara Fowlie. He was predeceased by his loving wife Christine (Connelly) and his brothers Lee, Ernie, and Franklyn and his sisters Marian Kenrick and Gertrude Dickey. A special thank you to his caregivers and staff of the Berkley Bedford. Funeral service will be held in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro at 10:00 am Saturday, December 20, Rev. Larry Harrison and Rev. Keith Gayle officiating. Reception to follow the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Society or a charity of your choice.
