Mr Currie Orren Teakles of Drury's Cove Rd., passed away at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on December 16, 2014 at the age of 78. He is predeceased by his son Roger in 2006 and by his sister Rebie Cripps who passed away in 1997. Currie walked to and from school everyday which was the one room schoolhouse in Southfield. Currie had one sister Rebie and they were very close throughout their childhood up until her death in 1997. Currie enjoyed working in the woods with his father and helping out on the farm. After finishing school, he went to work as a mechanic at the Roachville garage. Eventually, Currie owned his own business which was called Teakles Salvage. In the late 1980's Currie retired from his job at Ron's Esso where he worked as a mechanic. Currie was not one to stay still so he bought a tractor and began mowing the side of the roads.
Currie met the love of his life, Winnie Betteridge, in Sussex in 1958. After a one year courtship they were married on March 21, 1959. They built their only home in Ratter Corner in the summer of 1959 and went on to start their family which grew to their five children: Roger, Wendy, Cheryl, Lorraine and Randy. Currie was an avid hunter and fisherman. He would spend many hours at his camp, which was on the property, hunting with Bill Loder, his best friend from Newfoundland.
Currie eventually slowed down due to health reasons, finally retiring in 2007. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He will leave a legacy of love and kindness to all who knew him.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, Sussex, from where visitation was held. A Celebration of Currie’s life was held from Wallace Community Chapel on December 18, 2014 with Pastor Tim MacDonald officiating. The Musical Selections were The Greatest Man I Never Knew, How Great Thou Art, Amazing Grace and Saying Goodbye. Interment was in Creightonville Cemetery
