George Edward MacLean

MacLEAN, GEORGE EDWARD "ED" - Ed MacLean passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He was 79. Born May 6th, 1935 in Fredericton, NB to the late Walter and Florence MacLean, Ed is survived by his daughters, Julie (Bob), Dixie Rachel; sister, Rev. Alice MacLean, brothers, Douglas and Gordon MacLean; grandchildren Ashleigh and Lindsey Bond and two great grandchildren; numerous close nieces and nephews; special friends, Dave and Carol Blacklock. He is predeceased by three sisters and four brothers. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dave and Carol Blacklock, Dr.Plummer, Dr. Boisvert and the many staff at DECRH (ICU), all who grew angels wings to assist Dad in what was to be his last week of life. We also thank Carolyn Turney and residents (St.Anne's Lodge) and the entire staff at Paradise Villa for their kind and considerate care of Dad. Ed served his country with the 2nd Battalion of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. HisTour of duty included Germany and he was honourably discharged. He was also the proud owner and manager of Ed's Barbershop on Carleton Street for many years. In later years, he maintained his barbering skills and prior to retirement, worked with Ross Ventures. The streets of Fredericton will be a little quieter now without Dad cycling around and we can only hope Tim Horton's and Victory Meats will be able to carry on without his friendly smile and numerous visits. Each time you see a bicycle or hear classical music, we ask you to hold Ed close to your heart. "Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride." - John F. Kennedy
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Donations in memory of Ed may be made to your local "Meals on Wheels" or New Brunswick Trails Council Inc. Bishops Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road has been entrusted with the arrangements. www.bishopsfuneralhome.com
