Joseph John Janis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away with his family by his side on December 23, 2014 at Providence Place. Joe was born on May 20, 1924, the 9th of 14 children. He was raised on a farm in the Glen Bain area, receiving his education at Simonson and Glen Bain Schools, and started farming with his father in 1942. On June 1, 1953 he married Clara Hornung and together they raised 5 children. From 1976 to 1984, he farmed with his son Murray and then semi-retired to Moose Jaw. Joe served on the RM of Glen Bain municipal council from 1970 – 73, and was an active member of the Glen Bain Community Club for many years. He loved sports and had fond memories of playing on the Glen Bain baseball team with his brothers, attending all the Sports Day events in the area. In retirement he enjoyed bowling, playing cards, especially Bridge, and visiting with friends and family. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Clara; their children, Murray (Penny) Janis, Elaine Mulatz, Dianne Prentice (Chip), Collette Janis, and Joanne (Joe) Gregoire; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews. Many thanks to Providence Place for their care and compassion. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday December 30, 2014 at 1:00 pm. Father Rick Krofchek will be the Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory may be made to the Arthritis Society, #110 – 2550 12th Ave., Regina, S4P 3X1, or to Providence Place Foundation Inc., 100 2nd Ave. N.E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1B8.
