It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Sidney 'Sid' MacNeil.
Born June 4, 1935, in Ottawa Brook, Victoria Co, he was a son of the late James Alex and Mary Agnes MacNeil.
John Sidney came to Sydney in 1965 and worked his trade as a mechanic for John Nardocchio’s Sydney River Texaco; Nardocchio’s Auto Electric & Nardocchio Geddes Auto Sales, State Street, Sydney. His greatest achievements were the restoration of his 1954 Ford truck and his 1931 Model- A Coupe.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Mary MacLean. He was so proud of his daughter Cindy (Brian) Murrant who gave him three beautiful grandchildren, Ashton, Noah and Addison who loved Papa dearly. Also surviving are sisters, Kay (Art) Ley, Fredericton, Theresa Butts, Toronto, Catherine Campbell, Grand Mira; mother-in-law Florence Isabell (Bonapart) MacLean; sisters-in-law, Margie and Marquerite MacNeil. He also leaves to mourn are many special nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by grandson John Charles in infancy, brothers, Michael James, Charlie, Joseph Pius, John Archie, Duncan, Jimmy and John in infancy, brothers-in-law, Alex Campbell, Bill Butts; sister-in-law Margaret (MacClusky)MacNeil; father-in-law Michael J. MacLean.
Cremation has taken place. His request was to have no visitation. A funeral mass will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Rosary Church, Fr. Doug Murphy officiating. A private committal will take place at a later date. Following the service, friends are invited to gather for a reception in S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St.
Donations in John Sidney’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the VON.
