William 'Bill' Alvin Murphy

We regret to announce the sudden passing of William 'Bill' Alvin Murphy on, Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, peacefully at home.
Bill was born in Port Morien. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy aboard the HMCS Bonaventure and became a Korean War veteran in the medical field. He left the Navy to pursue a career as a respiratory technician where he worked for 35 years at the Glace Bay Community Hospital, retiring in 1993.
In his younger years, he was a member of the Glace Bay Skating Association as a coach and a costume designer. His talent for making wedding cakes and birthday cakes will be missed. He was also involved for many years in the boy scouts in New Aberdeen. He started the Fair Follies which gave children an opportunity to show their singing and dancing talents. Bill was always ready to help anyone who asked him.
Bill will be sadly missed by his best friend and wife of 46 years, Karen (MacDougall) Murphy. He is also survived by his three daughters, Shauna (Brian), Sheryl (Darren) and Nicole (Arnie). He also leaves behind two special daughters, Renee and Morgan. Bill is also survived by his grandchildren, Katelin (David), Meaghen, Rhodena, Rebecca, Shaun, Rolanda and Paris; great-grandchildren, Kiara, Savannah, Alex, Noah and Chloe; two sisters, Ruth Brann and Hildagarde Lawson; stepbrothers and his buddy, his stepsister, Louise McHardy.
Bill was predeceased by his mother, Ann (McLellan) Hopkins, stepfather, Herb Hopkins and his father, Byron Murphy.
Bill's humour and sarcastic wit will be missed by all.
There will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
In keeping with Bill’s wishes; he always wanted an Irish wake so friends and family can stop by his house on 59 Reservoir Ave., Glace Bay on Monday from 2-9 p.m. and share memories with the family.
