Frances Ruth Hawkins - 75, of Kentville, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Horace Victor and Ethel Beatrice "Bernie" (Alexander) Marshall. She had been employed with the Nova Scotia Government Land Registration Office, from where she retired. She was a very active member of the United Church and was a life member of the United Church Women. She enjoyed live theatre, photography and a good game of Canasta. She is survived by two sons, Anthony Blair "Tony" (Kathy) Hawkins, Dartmouth, and their children, Jack Hawkins and Troy Hawkins; Timothy Bruce "Tim" Hawkins, Kentville; two brothers, Irving Alexander (Carol) Marshall, Dartmouth; Charles Edward (Wendy) Marshall, Halifax; a sister-in-law, Joan Marshall, Aylesford; nieces and nephews; her special friend, Elson Benjamin. She will also be missed by her constant companion, her cat, Rascal. She was predeceased by a brother, Lloyd David Marshall. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception which was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in Orchard Valley United Church, New Minas, Reverend Karen Lynch officiating. Burial will take place at a later date, beside her parents in the Fundy View Cemetery, Port Lorne. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Canadian Diabetes Association, Orchard Valley United Church, New Minas or the charity of your choice.
