It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the passing of Lucy Genevieve Gorman (nee Rose), at the age of 93. Lucy passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at the Glace Bay Hospital, where she had been receiving care since the spring of 2014.
Born in New Waterford, Dec. 27, 1921, she was the youngest daughter of the late Reuben and Esther (Wilcox) Rose. Lucy was the last surviving member of her immediate family and a long-time resident of New Waterford.
Faith and family were very important to Lucy. She was a very active member of Calvin United Church, where she sang in their Church Choir and loved to help at the annual Strawberry Festival. She also loved to bake, garden and visit her cottage on the beautiful Mira River. Lucy loved animals; always enjoying her time spent with the family pets.
Lucy will be sadly missed by her son Keith and his wife Laurie (White), New Waterford; granddaughters, Lindsay (Chad) Rindall, Poplarfield, Man., and Anne (Jason Hogan) Gorman, New Waterford; nieces, Sonya (Sidney) Hutchison, New Waterford, Irene MacMillan, New Waterford, Heather (Bill) MacNeil, Mississauga Ont.; nephews, James (Linda) Antle, New Waterford, Wesley (Deannie) Rose, Mississauga, Ont., Wayne (Linda) Rose, Rocky Mountain House, Alta. Also surviving are many grandnieces and grand nephews.
Besides her parents, Lucy was also predeceased by her loving husband, Melvin Gorman, and her son, Malcolm-Allen, sister, Lillian( Henry) Antle; brothers, Wesley (Winnie) Rose, Malcolm (Jennie) Rose; nieces, Gloria Davis, Cathy Savage; nephews, Charles Antle and Reuben 'Butchie' Rose.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, Jan. 6, 2015, from 7-9 p.m., in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Duncan Roach, will be celebrated 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, in Calvin United Church, New Waterford. A luncheon will be held in the Rev. Duncan Roach Fellowship Room immediately after the service, with interment to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
In honouring Mom’s wishes, memorial donations in her memory may be made to Calvin United Church, or a charity of one’s choice.
