Philip MacLean

Born In: Upper Baddeck

Passed in: North Sydney
Passed on: January 2nd, 2015

Philip MacLean, 90, aka 'Uncle Phillie' to most, passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at the Northside General Hospital.
He was born in Upper Baddeck, as he said years ago when we talked about an obituary —just put down “did some stuff then he died.” Humour was one of his characteristics.
He was the third youngest of the late Phillip and Hughena (MacKay) MacLean.
He was the last of nine siblings. Predeceased by his wife Barbara (MacKay) (childhood sweetheart) and sisters, Tina, Sara, Sadie, Greta, Martha and brothers, Johnny, Melvin and D.J.
Phillie started life working in the woods and then joined the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War and his last assignment was transporting war brides to Halifax. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 53 in Baddeck. After, he drove trucks and eventually moved to New Glasgow and worked for MacCulloughs for many years and later with the Central Building Supply boys in Antigonish.
He was a gentle soul. He will be missed by both the MacLean and MacKay families of nieces and nephews and stepchildren Margie (Chuck), Freddy (Lynn), Bobby (Pam), Allison (Peter) and Ann and their children and his special friends Lucie (Kenny), Bruce Rabbit (Joyce) constant visitors and lottery pull tag suppliers. Also the staff at the Harbour View Hospital Veterans Wing (where it was his 'home' for the last four years).
A classy guy who had a great life and never did anyone harm.
Cremation has taken place and funeral arrangements will be made at a later date when the weather gets much warmer in the spring/summer as he loved the heat.
Donations can be made to the Hospice Society of Victoria County, P.O. Box 279, Baddeck, N.S., B0E 1B0.
Arrangements under the care and direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck, N.S.
