STELLARTON – John Angus Campbell, age 75 of the Valley View Villa, Riverton and formerly of King Street, Stellarton, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015 in the Valley View Villa.
Born in Stewartdale, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Donald John and Jessie (Kennedy) Campbell.
John was a resident of Stellarton for the past 50 years. He was a former member of the Royal Canadian Navy Queens Guard 7th Regiment. During his working life John was a welder and pipefitter having worked for various companies including Hawker Siddeley, Trenton Works and the Pictou Ship Yard. John was a member of Local 244 Pipefitters Union receiving his 50 year life membership on September 27, 2011, he was also a BTJ Pipefitter retiree. He was a member of the Steel Workers Union since 1961.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. After retiring John liked to spend time in the yard gardening. John also enjoyed repurposing things for backyard art which he shared with his friends and family.
John was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are his children John M. Campbell (Debbie Kampen), Irish Mountain; Isabell (Ken) Goudey, Trenton; Glenda Terris (James Theriault), New Glasgow; Michael Campbell (Elizabeth Silver), Stellarton; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
John was predeceased by his wife the former Janet Letitia Fisher, a brother Ronald J. Campbell and a sister Florence.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Bill Rankin officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.
Donations in memory of John may be made to the VON Pictou County Branch.
