George Oley
OLEY, GEORGE JOHN - 1922 - 2015 - With great sadness, the family of George John Oley wishes to announce his passing on January 10, 2015, peacefully at home. George was born on November 27, 1922, at Pittsburgh, PA and raised in Richmond, Virginia. He served as a gunner’s mate on P.T. Boat 176 in the U.S. Naval Service, Pacific Theatre, during WWII. In 1947, he married May Kileel, at St. Anne’s Church, Kingsclear, NB and they made Fredericton, NB their permanent home in 1952. George is survived by his wife; his five children, David (Patricia), Stephen (Cindy), Joanne (Rick), Frank and Margaret (Tom); his grandchildren, Stephanie, Mary, Joseph, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Barbara, John, Nicole, Ben, Grace and Xavier and his great-grandchildren, Anna, Sophie and Patrick. George was employed with Kileel’s Shoe Store and the Diplomat Motel and Restaurant, until he retired in 1992.
There will be no visitation by request. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Dunstan’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 12:05 pm with Rev. Bill Brennan officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the Hermitage Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial tributes in George’s honor may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
