Gerald Leslie "Gerry" Wentzell - 82, of Upper Dyke, Kings County, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the late Edison and Ora (Martin) Wentzell. Gerry was a "telephone man" who spent 42 years working for Maritime Tel & Tel from Digby to Cape Breton. Although he enjoyed all the places he lived, the Valley was where his heart was. He was a long time member of the Kentville Gyros Club, a member of the Glooscap Curling Club and spent many years supporting the Kings North Conservative party. After retirement he and Julie moved to Upper Dyke where he spent his time in the greenhouse and tending his gardens. A long time photographer, Gerry began wood carving the birds that showed up at his feeder. He is survived by his wife, the former Julia Veinotte; a daughter, Jill (Danny) Flinn and their children, George and Abbey, Halifax; three sisters, Eleanor, USA; Noreen (George) Brien, New Minas; Yvonne (Ralph) Mercer, Miramichi; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents, his brother, Murray and several close friends. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial will take place at a later date.
