­Katherine “Jean” Pitts, age 87 of Thorburn, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Greenwood, she was the daughter of the late Evan and Edith (MacDonald) MacDonald.
Jean was a resident of Thorburn for most of her life. She was member of the Union Presbyterian Church for over 70 years where she taught Sunday School and was a former choir member. Jean was also a member of the Esther Mission Circle AMS. She was also a charter member of the Ladies Aux. of the Thorburn Fire Dept. Jean was involved with the District 13 Recreation and Planning Commission and the Ivor MacDonald Memorial Rink, volunteering with the minor hockey association.
Surviving are a daughter Joanne (Kent) MacKnight, MacLellan’s Brook; sons: Randall “Randy” (Cindy) Pitts, Linacy; Bradley (Paula) Pitts, Linacy; Lyle (Crystal) Pitts, Merigomish; grandchildren: Amy (Jim) Morrison, Ryan, Kevin and Evan; step-grandchildren, David and Wayne; step-great-granddaughter Rayna; a brother Fred (Marie) MacDonald, New Glasgow.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Francis, a son Noel and a grandson Justin MacKnight.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King St., New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Burial will be in the Thorburn Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Jean may be made to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital, the Union Presbyterian Church or to the Thorburn Cemetery Association.
