SHIPLEY, ALBERT RUSSELL - The death of Albert "Al" Shipley, occurred on Monday, January 12, 2015 at the Ridgewood Veterans Wing in Saint John, NB. He died peacefully at the age of 95, surrounded by his family. Al was born on April 10, 1919, in Parrsboro, NS to William and Clara Shipley. He spent most of his life in New Brunswick. He married the love of his life, Mary Rosalie "Rose" (Frenette) Shipley (predeceased 2007) on May 12, 1941. They were married for 66 years. Al served in the Canadian Army with the Royal Canadian Engineers from 1939 to 1946. He won the Canadian Army cross-country race in 1944-1945. Al also served in the Honor Guard for King George VI, during the Royal visit to Canada in 1939. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus obtaining 4th degree and serves as guard for Pope John Paul II in Moncton. A carpenter most of his career, Al worked at the Lantic Sugar refinery for 21 years and later at the Loch Lomond Villa, where he was the superintendent of maintenance until he retired. He also was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rothesay, helping maintain the old church and rectory for many years. He is survived by daughter Janice Dugay (Len) of Rothesay, sons; Richard (Annmarie) of Saint John, Thomas (Nancy) of Rothesay, Peter (Carol) of Midland, NB, Michael (Sheryl) of Midland, Pat (Theresa) of Kingston Peninsula, NB, and David (Jennifer) of Windsor, NS, sister Madeline Alpers of Florida, twenty-one grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his brothers; Fred, Ed, and Bob, sisters; Grace and Theodorea, and daughters-in-law; Adrienne and Marie.
Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119) with visiting on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Interment to take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Ridgewood Veterans Wing.
