Passed peacefully away after a brief battle with cancer in Red Deer, AB, on Dec 31st, 2014, George Gilbert Burden, formerly of Carbonear, in his 81st year. Predeceased by his first wife Betty (Sainsbury) and second wife Carrie (Banfield), his parents James and Elizabeth Burden, his mother Doris Burden King, sister Elizabeth Kelsey, and brother Calvin Powell. Leaving to mourn: devoted partner Barbara Hawthorne and her three adult children. Children Donna (Patrick) Schlachter, Denver, CO; Karen (John) Comerford, Carbonear, NL; Linda (John) Boland, Cambridge, ON; Paul (Tina) Mississauga, ON; and David (Margie) Red Deer, AB; grandchildren, Adam (Holly), Andrew (Cayla), Makayla, Alex, Mathew, Danielle, Elizabeth, and James: 2 Granddaughters and 9 Great grandchildren in the US. Brother Bert (Paula) Powell, Cambodia; sisters Sheila (Gordon) Anderson, Hantsport, NS; and Marilyn (Ralph) Montgomery, Halifax, NS. Also a large circle of other family and friends. George was a long-time member of the Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Newfoundland and Labrador(AETTNL), the Canadian Snowbird Association (CSA), and the Masonic Lodge. He made a huge impact on his family and his community through his various affiliations including as a Master Locksmith, a Pinkerton Agent, and a local businessman. Cremation has taken place and private family inurnments will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers. donations can be made to Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Ave., Red Deer, AB, T4R 3S6
