Gladys Evelyn Mary Uncles passed away January 12, 2015, in Calgary, AB. Gladys was born May 20, 1927, in Moose Jaw, SK. After graduation from Central Collegiate High School, she entered the School of Nursing at Toronto Western Hospital graduating in 1949. She nursed in Moose Jaw and area. Gladys married Jack in 1951, and they made their home in Moose Jaw for 60 years. She was a dedicated member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church Moose Jaw, faithfully serving the Altar Guild, A.C.W, Vestry and teaching Sunday School. She volunteered at the Red Cross Blood Bank for many years and was an active participant in curling, an avid reader, a fan of current affairs, debate, and Jeopardy. As well as being a skilled seamstress and knitter, she enjoyed walking, travelling, and dancing with her favourite partner of 63 years, Jack. Three and half years ago, Gladys and Jack moved to Calgary to be closer to many of their family. Throughout her life, Gladys exemplified and taught her children her strong personal values. Gladys will be deeply missed by her husband Jack, son John (Donna) of Calgary, AB; daughters Karen (Rick) Jackson of Calgary, AB and Leslie (David) Ell of Regina, SK; grandchildren Rebecca (Ito), Alison (Matt), David, Jeffrey, Alyssa (Justin), Jordan (Brittany), Jared, and Meghan; great grandchildren Abril and Evan; sister Muriel (Aage) Jensen; and various other relatives.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at St Barnabas Anglican Church, 1407 – 7th Ave NW, Calgary, AB, Rev. Brian Way officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the charity of your choice in Gladys’ name. A memorial service will be held in Moose Jaw at a later date.
