It is with great sadness and heavy hearts the family of Carmella MacDonald wish to announce her passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Jan. 13, 2015.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Ambrose and Tillie (Bresowar) Bates.
Carmella was a CNA and worked at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital where her compassion for the sick was well shown. She was a hard working person and was well liked and respected by all who knew her. Being a very kind and thoughtful person, Carmella dedicated her life to helping others, but most of all her family meant everything to her and she had so much devotion and love towards them. Carmella also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking.
Carmella is survived by her best friend, caregiver and loving husband, Patrick 'Paddy' and her pride and joy, niece, Kelly Ann (Craig) Stone and their children, Nicholas and Ava; nephew, Kenny (Paula) Bates, their children, Shalynn and Logan; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Bates, Jean Chiasson, Shirley O'Quinn, Ceann Hall; brothers-in-law, Neil, Danny and Albert MacDonald; many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by a brother, Paul in infancy; brother, Kenny Bates; stepmother, Lil; brother-in-law, Louis MacDonald; sister-in-law, Bernadette Heinekcamp and many aunts and uncles.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Carmella's life will take place in the funeral
home chapel on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. A luncheon will follow at the K.O.C Hall, Plummer Avenue. Burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
