ZELENSKY, Sophie (nee Tkachuk)
July 5, 1923 – January 10, 2015

We are sad to announce the passing of our mother, Sophie Zelensky. Sophie passed away at the Herb Bassett Nursing Home on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the age of 91. She was born July 5, 1923 in Samburg, SK. Sophie is survived by her son Kenneth (Carol) of Cochrane, AB, grandson Todd (Michelle) & great granddaughter Sara of Cochrane, AB, grandson Dean (Tina) & Tina’s daughters Katrina and Jacinda, Tina’s grandson Josh, Tina’s grandson Oliver of Prince Albert, SK, grandson Chad (Lindsay), great granddaughter Lowen of Calgary, AB; her daughter Carole (Fred) Freeman of Calgary, AB, granddaughter Shelley (Darrin) Johnson, great grandsons Adam & Connor of Saskatoon, SK, granddaughter Lesley (Michael) Doughty, great grandsons Erik & Zachary of Boston, MA; her daughter Sandra ( Don) Matchett, granddaughter Lindsay, grandson Ryan (Helen) all of Calgary, AB; her daughter Debra (Dale) Tarves of Calgary, AB; her sister Ruth Tkachuk of Toronto, ON; her two sisters-in-law Pearl Zelensky of Prince Albert, SK and Pauline Tkachuk of Calgary, AB; her two brothers-in-law Henry Krol of Toronto, ON and Peter (Sophie) Zelensky of Prince Albert; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Michael Zelensky; her parents Nick and Mary Tkachuk; her sisters Anita Kenny and Esther Krol; her brothers Bill (Mary), Jim (Tina), John, George (Olive) and Peter. Our mother will be remembered for her beautiful voice who enjoyed singing in her church choir and Sweet Adelines. She loved her children and had numerous friends and relatives until dementia took over her life. A special thanks to the Herb Bassett Nursing Home (Golden Hill) for all their compassionate care, love and support. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
