Christena Urquhart

The death of Christena “Brownie” Urquhart, formerly of Plymouth Park and Stellarton, occurred January 15th, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit following several weeks of declining health. She was in her 90th year.
Brownie will be remembered as a small feisty woman with a strong faith in her God, family and friends. She valued and enjoyed the basic things of life – caring for children (many), helping others, working tirelessly, knitting, a game of scrabble, working on puzzles, walking miles, spending time with family and friends. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton for over 60 years. She was a valued member of her community.
Brownie was the daughter of the late Tom and Gertrude (Joudrey) MacEwan of Westville. A coal miner’s family, she was one of 14 brothers and sisters. She was married to the late Donald A. Urquhart of Plymouth Park. She lived in the Park for over 50 years, having raised her five children there.
Brownie was predeceased by her husband, Donald; son, Percy; grandson, Lars Ormond; brothers: Bobby, Percy, Allister, Harry, Chester and sisters Jean and Muriel.
She is survived by daughters: Dawn (Bill) Ormond, Jean (Eric) Williams, Mary Ann (Reg) Cameron; son Dan (Sue Getson); 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; brothers: Nelson, Richard, Gleason (Judy), Elwood (Doris); and sisters June and Trixie; and sister-in-law Shirley.
Cremation to take place. Visitation will take place Sunday, January 18th, 2015 from 1:30 to 2:50 p.m. at the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton, followed by a Service of Celebration of Brownie’s life at 3 p.m. with Rev. Charles McPherson presiding. A time of fellowship will take place immediately after the service. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date.
Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Brownie may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Society or a charity of your choice.
