It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Irene May (D’Eon) MacLean, 94 of Washabuck and Pomquet on January 16, 2015 at Tiagh Na Mara, Glace Bay.
Born in Pomquet, N.S. she was the daughter of the late Gregor and Mary Louise (Venedam) D’Eon.
Mom was a member of Holy Rosary Mission, Washabuck and St. Croix Parish, Pomquet, N.S. She served diligently as a member of Holy Rosary Altar Society, Washabuck Home and School, Grandona Branch 124, Ladies Auxiliary, Pomquet Seniors Club, and the Washabuck Community Center. Mom was a most loyal fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays although she never refused her companionship to anyone of different persuasions. Always ready with a cup of tea and homemade goodies, she loved to see company come for a visit or a game of cards.
The highlight of Nan’s days were when the grandkids came for a visit and the great-grandkids came for some fun and games with her. They certainly put a sparkle in her eyes and a hearty laugh on her lips.
She is survived by her sons, James (Debbie), Joey (Gwen), Tony (Pat), and Louis; daughters, Annette (Francis Melanson), Louise (Wayne MacKenzie) and Loretta (David Flaska); sixteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; half-brothers, John, Jerry (Sharon) and Albert (Hazel); and half-sisters, Madeline (Ambrose Rogers), Loretta (Ernie Brennan), Betty and Marie.
Mom was predeceased by her husband James Andrew; daughter Irene Yvonne; and great-granddaughter Madison Sierra; brothers, Charlie, Arthur, Martin and Anthony; sisters, Mary, Theresa, Josephine and Gladys; step-brothers, T-Joe and Georgie and step-sister Mary; half-brothers, Ben and Martin.
Mom will be resting in the Washabuck Community Center on Monday, January 19, 2015 with visitation from 2-9 p.m. The funeral will be held onTuesday, January 20, 2015 in St. Columba Parish Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of MacAskills Funeral Home, Baddeck.
