Eileen ’Tally’ Duncanas MacNeil of Sydney, died peacefully at the Cove Guest Home on Saturday, January 17, 2015.
Born June 15, 1922, Eileen was the daughter of the late Charlotte Rosa (Berthier) Burgey and Samuel G. MacDonnell. She was the last surviving member of the immediate family.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Malcolm, a World War II veteran; sisters Violet MacLean and Genevieve Chisholm, brothers George, Jim and Leonard, and her dear friend Jim Lynk of Catalone.
Aunt Tally was dearly loved by all her nieces and nephews especially the MacLeans of Ashby Road and the Chisholms of Matilda Street. She was also a proud great aunt and great great aunt to the children of her many nieces and nephews. She was the godmother of 12 and also cared for four foster daughters when she lived in Gillisdale, Margaree. Eileen remained a dear and loyal friend to her in-laws, the MacNeils of Big Pond.
She was a long-time resident of the senior apartments, Tillock Drive, where she created a cozy home always open for visitors with good Scottish music and, if your timing was good, delicious meals and an old fashioned drink. Eileen was a member of St. Theresa’s parish and CWL. She was also a life member of the Ladies’ Auxillary, Branch 12, Royal Canadian Legion.
Cremation has taken place. A summer funeral service to celebrate the life of Eileen will be held in Big Pond with details to be announced at a later date.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff of the Cove Guest Home for the professional and compassionate care given to Eileen.
Donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to the Cove Guest Home.
