It is with sadness that our family announces the passing of Elizabeth 'Betty' Whitney on Sunday January 18.
She was the last surviving member of her family. Betty was a much loved mother, grandmother, great grand mother, aunt and friend.
Betty was born in Bridgeport on December 31, 1917 to parents John R Lynk Sr. and Ethel (Knox) Lynk.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband Gib; granddaughter Jessica; sisters Mary, Helen, Marjorie; and brother John.
She is survived by her children Gary (Jackie), Glace Bay, Nancy (Keith Latham), Marion Bridge, and Dale (Ann Marie) Oshawa; grandchildren Andrea, Garilyn, Angela, Paul, Sarah, and Hannah. Great grandchildren Emily and Bethany.
Since April 2001 Betty was a resident of Seaview Manor in Glace Bay. The family is very grateful for the love and care the staff provided her during her time as a member of their Seaview family. In her earlier years Betty worked as a nurse's aid at the Glace Bay General Hospital. Following that she devoted herself to being a parent, grandparent, and great grandparent.
Cremation has taken place. Under the direction of Patten Funeral Home, Glace Bay, visitation will be held on Wednesday January 21 at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home chapel on Thursday, January 22 at 2 p.m. with The Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Interment at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the church/charity of choice or to Seaview Manor.
