With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Jessie McKinnon, 83, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Florence, Jessie was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Russell) Robertson. After she finished high school she moved to Toronto, then worked several years until marrying Archie. She lived there raising her family, then moved back to Cape Breton in 1985 following Archie’s retirement, residing in New Campbellton. In 1998 she moved to Central Court in North Sydney, where she made many friends. She was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Big Bras d’Or and was a former choir member. She was also a member of the Senior Citizen & Pensioners Club, Bras d’Or.
Jessie is survived by her only son Bill (Cheryl) McKinnon, Kelowna, B.C. and four grandchildren, Billy, Lisa, Brett and Julia, her sister Agnes MacAulay, Big Bras d’Or and a number of nieces and nephews. Jessie is also survived by her special friend Doug Carter and his family.
She was predeceased by her husband Archie McKinnon in 1998, as well as her siblings Jean, Bill, Tommy, James, Chris, Marion, Lillian and John.
Visitation for Jessie will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at St. James Presbyterian Church, Big Bras d’Or with Rev. Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial in St. James Cemetery, Big Bras d’Or.
Flowers gratefully accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation.
