Myles Gillis

Born: May 3rd, 1919

Passed in: Skye Glen
Passed on: January 17th, 2015

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Myles, Saturday, January 17, 2015 at home.
Born May 3, 1919, Myles was the son of the late John C and Mary Catherine (MacInnis) Gillis.
He spent his life on the family farm in Skye Glen, retiring from the Department of Highway in 1984. He was a member of the Stewart United Church and the Men's Brotherhood. He enjoyed going to the weekly card games in Skye Glen and Mabou, and would always challenge you to a 'friendly' game when you came to visit. He was very active, always into the woodpile or mowing the lawn, and loved going for drives to Hogama with his cat Molly.
Left to grieve is his loving wife of 64 years, Nellie; two sons, Wesley (Mary C) and Bruce (Debbie), both of Skye Glen; granddaughter Trudy, Ft McMurray; grandson, Randy (Michelle), Port Hawkesbury; and new great-granddaughter, Alyssa, who was the recent twinkle in his eye. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, John Hugh MacDougall, Sudbury, and numerous nieces and nephews. Myles was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Myles was predeceased by daughter, Nancy Marie; brothers, Jack, Sammy, Don, Malcolm, Murdock and Charlie; sisters, Lillian and Flossie.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 2 - 9 p.m. in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral will be held Thursday, January 22, 2015 in the Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh at 11 a.m., with Rev. Allison Etter officiating. Burial in the Skye Glen Cemetery. Following the burial, there will be a reception in the Skye Glen Community Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family are asking for donations to be made to the Skye Glen & Centreville Community Hall.
